Varadero Ready for Peak Tourist Season
Monday, November 15, 2010

Havana.- The world-famous Varadero beach, in Matanzas province, is expected to receive one million foreign tourists in December for the third year in a row.

Local tourism authorities pointed out that more than 800,000 foreign tourists had visited that coastal resort until September, adding that the region's infrastructure is ready for the beginning of the peak tourist season that will end in April.

Varadero is visited by about 40 percent of all international travelers to Cuba, mainly from Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain and Spain.

Varadero offers 58 hotels, mostly four- and five-star establishments, which total more than 18,000 rooms, according to a report published by National Statistics Office in late 2009.
