Finishing Touches on Cuban Eolian Park
Monday, September 13, 2010

Havana.- Cuba's economy is betting on alternative energy to develop projects using the force of winds.

The program includes the Gibara II Eolian Park, in eastern Holguín province, which will be inaugurated soon.

According to experts, the park's six windmills will contribute 4,500 kilowatts/hour to the national power system when working at full capacity.

The windmills operate when the wind blows at four meters per second and stop working when the force of the wind exceeds 25 meters per second.

The design of the project took into account sea penetrations, so taller platforms were built to erect the windmills.
