Cuba to Host Meeting on Audiovisual Heritage
Monday, July 21, 2008

Havana.- Experts from five countries will participate in the 1st International Workshop on Film Preservation, which will debate issues related to the audiovisual heritage.

The meeting will be attended by experts from Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador, who will inaugurate a permanent chair at the International Cinema and Television School in San Antonio de los Baños.

As a practical exercise, participants will work on the restoration of Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano, which was founded by Santiago Alvarez and contains 30 years of Cuba and Latin America's historic memory.

That work was nominated for the World Memory heritage fund of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Students will work on some issues of Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano filmed from 1960 to 1990.
