Cuba: Waiting for the Summer

Summer in Cuba opens the season for tourism, as the reactivation of the leisure industry takes place.

In the case of the sea, those interested turn their gaze to Varadero, where two dozen kilometers of excellent beaches, linked to natural attractions such as caves, virgin keys and crystal-clear waters are complemented by a large infrastructure that can meet the most demanding tastes.

The offers for tourism are complemented by the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve, with trails dedicated to leisure, as well as islet such as the Piedras del Norte and Romero, which are popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Indeed, nature proudly displays more than 300 hectares on Punta de Hicacos, with aboriginal pictographs in the Cueva de Ambrosio and the ruins of Salina La Calavera, which are considered the first to be exploited in the Americas by the Spaniards during the colonization.

The hotel infrastructure is developing, with projects like the Oasis hotel, which will contribute nearly 1,000 rooms to Varadero.

Additionally, the creation of the first boulevard and the renovation of the Plaza America Convention Center, which is essential in the concept of comprehensive services, are being carried out.

Varadero's seabed has more than 40 types of coral, diversity of fish, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, turtles and more than 70 types of mollusks.

In addition, the existence of several marinas facilitates the practice of scuba diving and snorkeling, with appropriate boats, trained personnel, diving training centers, hyperbaric chambers and the necessary transportation for any emergency.

Undoubtedly, diving has its main attraction in Hoyo Azul Ojo del Mégano, a huge cavern that is 70 meters in diameter, with submerged walls, coral barriers and huge schools of multicolored fish.

The Varadero Golf Club, with the characteristic hallmark of an environment where pure air, vegetation and stillness predominate, is a key elements in the practice of that sport.

The facility is located in Peñas de San Bernardino, where millionaire Irenne Du Pont de Nemours built a nine-hole course for his private enjoyment in an exclusive area of 180 hectares, a few meters from the coastline in one of the world's best beaches.

The foundation of the city dates back to 1887, when the first families settled in the area, and at the beginning of 20th century, the first accommodation was built – gone by the passage of time – under the name of La Torre.
