Cuba: Options for Specialized Tourism

Cuban authorities are committed to the diversification of tourist options, with a view to adding value to the sector and capturing an important part of the events held in the region.

In this sense, the traditional options of sun and beaches, culture, nature and ecotourism are combined with cruises, adventure, sports and events.

Indeed, Cuba authorities reaffirm their interest in consolidating the country as a MICE tourist destination (meetings, incentives, congresses and exhibitions), for which purpose it has scheduled 227 events in 2020, including conventions, workshops, fairs and festivals.

With an international and national nature, with foreign participation and venues, the meetings will deal about several topics, such as agriculture and engineering; legal and political sciences; economics, accounting, administration and industry; information technology and telecommunications and tourism, among others.

Among the facilities for these activities are convention centers, hotels with meeting facilities, with the assistance of trained personnel, as well as travel agencies with representations throughout the country that provide incentives.

As a complement, Cuba is a member of the Federation of Latin American Congress Organizing Entities, the International Associations of Congresses and Conventions, Fairs of America and of Congress Palaces, as well as the Union of International Fairs.

For this type of activity, the country has a first-class infrastructure, hence the interest it generates to host events of various characteristics.

Among the facilities is Havana's International Conference Center, which occupies an area of 60,000 square meters.

In general, the center organizes, promotes and organizes conventions, congresses, symposiums, conferences, national and international meetings, fairs and exhibitions.

For this purpose, it has 11 air-conditioned, high-tech equipped rooms with simultaneous interpretation and advanced audiovisual technology.

As a new element, it has Professional Congress Organizers (PCO), who are in charge from the initial stage of design and conception until the culmination of the event.

Likewise, in western Cuba is the Plaza America Convention Center, a space for congresses, events, fairs and meetings.

Meanwhile, in the east, the facilities offered by the Heredia Theater Convention Center, with a total area of 72,800 square meters, stand out.

According to experts, it is a cultural institution specialized in programming, organizing and promoting artistic shows, festivals, congresses, conventions, exhibitions, symposiums, conferences, national and international meetings.

The Heredia Theater also provides management services, artistic production, lighting, audio, scenography, organization and the holding of events, including gastronomic services.
