Address
Calle Princesa, No. 1-3-5, esq. a Céspedes. Cárdenas. Matanzas
Description
The building was built in 1849 by Alejandro Garcia Capote. It is located between the Plaza de Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus Plaza), foundational site and political, administrative and cultural center of the city of Cardenas. It has been used with different purposes, such as a hotel and cultural association. The building is a landmark in the city of Cardenas since important historical events have taken place in it, like the visit of the Generals of the Liberation Army Maximo Gomez Baez, Antonio Maceo Grajales, and Domingo Mendez Capote, as well as the taking of the city on May 19, 1850, by the troops of the Venezuelan General Narciso Lopez, moment in which the flag of three colors, was raised for the first time, later becaming our national insignia.
