Cuba: The Sea as an Option

Cuba's tourism sector, characterized by its fast growth over the past few years, bets on diversifying its offers, which are based on the natural, cultural and historic wealth of the country.

Cultural, health and adventure tourism, events and incentives, nature and ecotourism are complemented by traditional sun and beach options in a destination that benefits from the wealth of the sea and its coasts for tourism.

In addition, the country's temperature in a tropical climate invites foreign vacationers from other latitudes to enjoy more than 200 beaches nationwide.

In that scenario, Varadero, which has become Cuba's major coastal resort, stands out in the western province of Matanzas.

Varadero is the sun and beach resort par excellence. It has an excellent hotel infrastructure that is growing and has great conditions for the practice of nautical sports.

In fact, Varadero is on the Hicacos Peninsula, whose northernmost tip, Punta de Morlas, is at the same time Cuba's northernmost point.

For nautical activities, Varadero has the marinas Darsena Varadero, Chapelin and Gaviota. The latter is on the tip of the peninsula and is at present the largest.

According to studies, 256 of 588 kilometers of Cuba's beaches are part of 12 major tourist regions, which are complemented by excellent hotels and nautical centers.

Even near Havana, the so-called Blue Circuit consists of about 18 kilometers of beaches with a good hotel and recreational infrastructure, above all to practice nautical sports.

The beaches that make up the Blue Circuit are Bacuranao, Tarará, Mégano, Santa María del Mar, Boca Ciega, Guanabo, and a little farther, on the same shore, Arroyo Bermejo.

The long list of Cuban beaches also includes those in Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), made up of Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. On the latter, Pilar Beach pays tribute to Ernest Hemingway's yacht.

Other famous beaches in Cuba are Santa Lucia, in Camagüey; Guardalavaca, Bariay, Esmeralda and Pesquero, in Holguín; Marea del Portillo and Farallones, in Granma: María Aguilar, on the Ancón Peninsula (Trinidad); Sirena, on Cayo Largo del Sur, Isla de la Juventud, and Daiquirí and Baconao, in Santiago de Cuba (in the east).

Undoubtedly, the blue sea and white fine sand along Cuba's shores are a great option for vacationers.
