Havana.- Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, known as the Diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, was granted the Latin Grammy Award for Musical Excellence.
The distinction recognizes the artistic career of the so-called Bride of Feeling, experts said.
The Cuban singe is the second Cuban artist to receive this recognition, after Juan Formell in 2013.
She has won dozens of award, including the 2006 National Music Award and the 2009 Latin Grammy.
Among the artists who have also received the Latin Grammy Award for Musical Excellence are Eva Ayllon (Peru), Lupita D'Alessio (Mexico), the duet Pimpinela (Argentina) and Joan Baez (United States)
Omara has an active career. She has performed in Spain and other countries with The Last Kiss Tour.
