Havana Hosts African Roots Festival

Havana.- The Cuban capital is hosting the 25th Wemilere African Roots Festival, which is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Havana.

The activities will take place in the Central Park of Guanabacoa, which was declared a National Monument, just across from the Municipal Palace.

In addition, a Forum on the Presence of Africa in Literature will be held, with Dr. Armando Cristobal Perez as the Honorary President.

The agenda includes book presentations, including Nelson Aboy: Origins of Cuban Santeria. Transculturation and Identity; and Maria del Carmen Barcia Zequeira: Pedro Blanco the Negro Smuggler, Myth, Reality and Spaces.

Wemilere, as a festival of African roots, will also consists of a literary forum and an academic colloquium, music, dance, customs, religiosity, Cuban and Havana traditions.
