Cuban Healthcare System on Alert due to Dengue Fever in Americas
Monday, August 19, 2019

Havana.- The Cuban healthcare system is taking preventive actions and is on alert due to the growing presence of dengue fever in the Americas.

Cuban experts in hygiene and epidemiology pointed out that the country has a surveillance and control system against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is the vector that transmits zika, chikungunya and yellow fever.

Although some dengue outbreaks were reported in Cuba in the first half of 2019, all have been controlled and cases have decreased, they added.

However, it is important to strengthen preventive measures at home to prevent hatcheries and the proliferation of the vector.

More than two million dengue patients have been reported so far this year in the Americas, where 70 percent of the population lives in conditions conducive to the transmission of the disease.
