New Breast Milk Bank in Western Cuba
Monday, August 19, 2019

Havana.- The western Cuban province of Matanzas has the services of a breast milk bank, the twelfth facility of that kind that operates in the country.

The bank, which is linked to the gyneco-obstetric hospital of the territory, is equipped with technology donated by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The bank will provide multiple advantages to mothers who cannot breastfeed their children, preterm children and children with growth restrictions.

This kind of center requires devices such as centrifuges, equipment for chemical and microbiological tests, cooling and pasteurization areas, refrigerators and extraction equipment.

Breast milk as an exclusive food until six months of life is considered ideal to keep babies healthy, as it contains essential fatty acids that are involved in psychomotor development and emotional intelligence.
