Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has made achievements in cruise tourism, with new facilities dedicated to this modality in Puerto Plata.
By 2020, the second Taino Bay cruise port will start up operations, so Puerto Plata will be the only point in the Caribbean with two cruise terminals.
From January to May 2019, 365,257 passengers arrived in that destination, including 273,399 as visitors and 91,858 as crew members.
Since the cruise program began in October 2015 to date, Puerto Plata has handled 543 cruise ships with 2.2 million passengers at Carnival's Amber Cove terminal.
This tourist option places the Dominican Republic among the main tourist destinations in the Caribbean region.
