Cultural Facilities for People with Disabilities
Monday, June 17, 2019

Havana.- Cuba has institutions dedicated to facilitate reading for people with physical, visual and hearing disabilities.

According to experts from the National Association of the Blind (ANCI), Cuba has 170 libraries and special areas for that segment of the population.

The libraries for the blind use the Braille method and audiobooks recorded on discs, and they have printers to reproduce texts in the writing system for the blind.

The largest libraries of this type work in a stable manner at the ANCI Cultural Recreation Center, in Havana, and the provincial capitals.

The theme gained prominence on the occasion of the Day of the Librarian in Cuba, which is marked on June 7 as a tribute to Antonio Bachiller y Morales, one of the country's most distinguished intellectuals.
