Cuban Ballet Assesses Projects with US Companies
Monday, May 20, 2019

Havana.- The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) is assessing new collaborative projects with companies from the United States, including the American Ballet Theater (ABT) and the New York City Ballet (NYCB).

BNC executives pointed out that together with these groups, a gala is prepared to honor prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso in Havana next year.

As part of the homage, the artistic assistant director of the Cuban company, Viengsay Valdes, met with representatives of the North American groups.

Recognized as one of the leading figures in Cuban ballet today, Valdes has been a guest artist of the Ballet of Washington, United States; the Concert Ballet of Puerto Rico; the Joburg Ballet of South Africa; the Bolshoi and the Mariinski, in Russia.

Valdes was chosen among the world's 100 best ballerinas in the 2010-2011 season by the prestigious magazine Dance Europe, and has taken her art to stages of all five continents.
