Lorna Burdsall Dance Award Granted in Cuba

Havana.- Cuban dancer were recognized with the Lorna Burdsall Award, granted by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

The award went to Dani Hernandez, first dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba; Lourdes Ulacia, a professor at the University of the Arts (ISA); and Eduardo "Eddi" Veitia, a dancer and a choreographer.

At the awarding ceremony, the work by the winners was acknowledged due to their contribution to dance and the formation of new generations.

The Lorna Burdsall Award pays tribute to the outstanding US dancer and choreographer who resided in Cuba and who made an important contribution to the development of contemporary dance.

The deceased artist was recognized with the 2008 National Dance Award and the National Artistic Teaching Award for her work in training, promoting and creating works for the development of dance.
