Tourism Grows in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Tourist arrivals in the Dominican Republic showed an interannual rebound of 4.6 percent in the first three months of 2019, compared to the same period last year.

The country received 1,876,144 foreign passengers and non-resident Dominicans by air, a figure that rose to two million when adding resident travelers.

North America was the major tourist-sending market with 65.1 percent of vacationers, followed by Europe with 21.6 percent and South America with 10.4 percent.

According to statistics, 66.4 percent of tourists arrived at the Punta Cana airport, 14.5 percent at Las Americas airport, in Santo Domingo; and 9.7 percent at Puerto Plata.

The Dominican Republic has its main source of resources in tourism and in 2018, it received 6.5 million visitors, with revenues close to 7,600 million dollars.
