Cuba Promotes Advanced Agricultural Projects
Monday, April 22, 2019

Havana.- Cuba is working on the application of advanced agricultural projects in the country with support from international organizations such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

In this direction, the initiative Cobimas (Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Agricultural Management), which extends its influence to some 2,700 producers, stands out.

The project, to be executed in the period 2019-2023, focuses on four protected areas in the provinces of Matanzas, Sancti Spiritus and Granma.

The plan is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by FAO in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Some of the crops that will benefit from the implementation of Cobimas are rice, sweet potato, corn, yucca, chili, anon, soursop and melon, as well as animal production, including the raising of Creole goats and pigs, Cuban brown rabbit, cubalaya hens and the melipona bees.
