Cuban Pentathletes Stand Out in Dominican Republic
Monday, April 22, 2019

Havana.- Cuba's best modern pentathletes dominated the actions in the friendly competition of that sport that took place in the Dominican Republic.

Leydi Laura Moya and Lester Ders won the mixed contest with 1,434 points, finishing first in fencing (257 points) and swimming (307 points), and in the second position in the shot-race combined trial (581 points).

Moya and Ders also won the single contest, in which they competed as part of the training for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in the summer.

The silver medal went to Guatemala's pair, made up of Paula Valencia and Alejandro Santis (1,398 points), while the bronze medal went to Gabriela and Andres Fernandez (1,378 points), also from Guatemala.

The agenda of Cuban modern pentathlon includes a training base in Mexico to take advantage of the country's altitude.
