Havana.- The Cuban handball team in the U-24 category will be present in the world championship after defeating the United States in the final.
The Cuban team won 37-36 in the decisive match at the Under-24 Nations Handball Championship, held in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
Cuba won the game and qualified for the world event in the category in overtime (4-3 goals), after dominating the first half by 21-17 and yielding in the second half of the game by 12-16.
The Cuban team defeated Barbados in the preliminaries by 45-7, beat Martinique in the quarterfinals by 32-16 and Puerto Rico in the semifinals by 27-23.
The bronze medals went to the Dominican Republic, which had a tight victory over Puerto Rico by 40-39, while Mexico beat Martinique by 27-26 and finished in the fifth place.
