Cuban Taekwondo Excels in Open Tournament in Mexico
Monday, April 22, 2019

Havana.- Cuba finished in the third position by countries in the Mexican Taekwondo Open Tournament, where the host team dominated the competitions.

Cuba's gold medals went to Rafael Alba (+87 kg) and the Pan-American champion in Toronto 2015, Jose Angel Cobas (80 kg).

Meanwhile, Glenhis Hernandez, world champion six years ago, won the silver medal after losing the title to the Puerto Rican fighter Crystal Weekes.

Mexico finished first by teams with eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, followed by the United States (3-0-4) and Cuba (2-1-0).

The event brought together more than 200 fighters from the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa, and Cuba participated with 12 competitors, seven of whom qualified for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019.
