Havana.- Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, the director of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), was named the Star of the Century.
The award was presented by the Latin Music Institute, as an acknowledgement of her artistic legacy to Cuban and international culture.
The president of the institution, Daniel Martin, pointed out on this occasion that Alonso is a true promoter of Latin rhythms from classical dance.
She also recalled her work as one of the founders of the BNC, a company that until now continues to train dancers regardless of their race or social status.
Among the personalities who have received that award are Pedro Infante, Libertad Lamarque, Javier Solis and Jose Alfredo Jimenez, just to mention a few personalities.
