Cuba's Major Coastal Resort Seeks Environmental Certificate
Monday, March 18, 2019

Havana.- The Cuban resort of Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas, is taking measures to be considered an "environmental beach" in 2020.

The coastal resort ranked second in the list of the best beaches in the world this year, as a result of the Travelers Choice Awards organized by the TripAdvisor travel website.

According to experts, Varadero is moving forward in the implementation of actions to protect the beach, as part of a strategy by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) and the Institute of Physical Planning.

In addition, in recent years, several hotels in Varadero were granted the environmental beach certificate.

Varadero has 52 hotels, 83 percent of which are managed and marketed by foreign companies such as Melia, Iberostar, Globalia and Blue Diamond.
