Ciego de Avila Works to Recover Exports
Monday, March 18, 2019

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Ciego de Avila is working to recover exports, taking into account the importance of earning convertible currencies for the country's economy.

According to data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), exports in 2014 reached 190 million dollars, a figure that rose to 332 million in 2017 and fell to 185 million last year.

In general, most of the income comes from sectors such as agriculture, with emphasis on exports of charcoal made from sickle bush, tobacco and fresh pineapple.

The territory has two dozen exportable items, taking into account the disappearance of handicrafts exports and educational services provided abroad.

In this context stands out the integrated export hub around the Empresa Agroindustrial Ceballos, of which several agricultural entities are part.
