Care for the Elderly in Eastern Cuba
Monday, March 11, 2019

Havana.- Care for the elderly is one of the priorities of Cuba's healthcare system in the eastern province of Camagüey, where 20.3 percent of the population is over 60 years of age.

This result is even two tenths higher than Cuba's average, and responds to an increase in life expectancy at birth and improvements in medical care.

In order to fulfill this function, 14 elderly homes, 27 elderly clubs, a geriatric service and four hospitals were set up in the territory.

The capacities in the elderly clubs increased by 195, totaling 1,183, a figure that is still insufficient in all municipalities, with the exception of Vertientes.

Moreover, elderly groups not only result in physical benefits for senior citizens, but also in good mental health, and there are already 8,324 people incorporated throughout the province.
