Commercial Aviation Expands in Latin American
Monday, February 18, 2019

Lima.- Commercial aviation in Latin America took a major step in the path of expansion in 2018, when the opening of 64 routes was finalized.

According to the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), passenger traffic increased 5.7 percent, to 295.5 million people.

The balance of the activity shows the activation of 22 domestic and 42 international routes, in order to maintain the growth trend for 15 consecutive years.

It should be mentioned that 82 percent of the 16 million additional passengers correspond to the intra-Latin American market, where Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru were responsible for 90 percent of the growth.

The region's airlines closed 2018 with an operational fleet of 1,962 planes, in addition to receiving 74 narrow-body aircraft, six wide-body aircraft and the same number of turboprops.
