Urban Agriculture in Cuba's Economy |

Havana.- Urban agriculture stands out in the Cuban strategy to feed the population, with prospects to achieve nearly 1.2 million tons of vegetables in 2019.
The plans include actions to further advance in the recovery of organoponic and intensive orchards, and areas of semi-protected crops.
This way, urban, suburban and family agriculture has proved the viability of producing vegetables and condiments in or near towns.
It is worth mentioning that last year, more than one million tons of vegetables were produced in this system nationwide, in addition to the reactivation of some 234,000 orchards.
In order to support this work, 147 municipal seed farms operate in the country, with prioritized attention on 26 special farms and the participation of research centers.
