Actions for the Elderly in Eastern Cuba
Monday, January 7, 2019

Havana.- Authorities in the eastern Cuban province of Camagüey promote actions to provide the care to elderly people suffering from some kind of disability.

This year's priorities in the territory include the creation of centers specialized in this type of work to improve the quality of life of the population.

Experts recalled that Camagüey is the sixth oldest territory in Cuba, having more than 153,000 people over 60 years of age, almost one fifth of the total population of the province.

Alzheimer's, vascular dementia or any disease that limits their daily activity are the main conditions taken into account for the creation of these centers.

Senior citizens account for 20 percent of the Cuban population, with more than two million people, and it is expected that by 2030 an aging rate of 30.3 percent will be reached.
