Award for Cultural Heritage Promotion in Cuba

Havana.- The National Council of Cultural Heritage granted the award for the Life Work to the architect Omar Lopez, director of the Office of the Curator of Santiago de Cuba.

The expert was nominated for his dedication and professionalism in the protection of the city's values, as well as in the training of qualified professionals and specialists.

During his career, Lopez has won the prizes for Technical Scientific Merit in the 1st Biennial on Architecture and Engineering in the category of restoration and the prize from the Academy of Science for his work in the 1986-1990 period.

In 2001, he was awarded the National Life and Architecture Prize granted by the UNAICC.

Among the nominees for the award were the museologist Ana Regla Mora Rodriguez; the researcher Alicia Garcia Santana, the plastic artist Ileana de la Caridad Sanchez, and Otto Randin, a member of the National Monuments Commission.
