Japan Reports Decrease in Tourist Arrivals
Monday, October 22, 2018

Tokyo.- Tourist destinations in Japan received 2.1 million foreign visitors in September, accounting for a decrease of 5.3 percent compared to the same month in 2017.

According to experts, this result responds, among other factors, to the natural disasters that have affected the country, including heavy rains, typhoons and an earthquake.

The biggest decline was reported in tourists from Hong Kong, whose number dropped 23.8 percent, while holidaymakers from South Korea decreased 13.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the largest increases corresponded to Italian tourists, with a 20.6-percent increase, and Spaniards, with a year-on-year increase of 13.1 percent.

It is worth mentioning that until August, Japan had received a record of 21.3 million foreign visitors, and more than 30 million holidaymakers are expected to visit the country in 2018.
