Wind Energy in Cuba's Economic Agenda
Monday, October 22, 2018

Havana.- Cuba is developing a strategy that includes an increase in the use of renewable energies, including wind power.

The archipelago has four such generators, including one on Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), Turiguano, Ciego de Avila, and two in Gibara.

Likewise, work is being done on the civil works of two other similar facilities in the eastern province of Las Tunas, which will be the largest of their kind the country.

The investment program for long and medium terms includes the construction of 14 new wind parks: 12 in Gibara, Rafael Freyre and Banes, in eastern Holguin province, and in the area of Maisi, Las Tunas and Camagüey.

The objective is that 6 percent of Cuba's power generation potential consists of this renewable source by 2030.
