Geneva.- Commercial airlines transported more than 4,100 million passengers worldwide in 2017, with a year-on-year growth of 7.4 percent.
During that same period, 280 million flights were operated between some 20,000 pairs of cities that were linked through regular air transport services.
By region, Asia-Pacific holds the first position by mobilizing 1.5 billion people, which is equivalent to 36.3 percent of the sector's market.
Likewise, Europe reached 1.1 billion passengers, followed by North America (941.8 million), Latin America (286.1 million), the Middle East (216 million) and Africa (88.5 million).
Regarding airlines, by total of regular passengers, American Airlines is the world leader with 324 million, followed by Delta Airlines (316.3 million) and United Airlines (311 million).
