Underground Tourism in Cuba
Monday, September 17, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban archipelago has more than 26,000 caves of different types that stimulate speleological tourism.

According to experts, several caverns in Cuba are true natural museums, such as the nearly 350 that are located on the north coast of western province of Matanzas.

Among them is the Bellamar Cave, which has stalactites (which grow from top to bottom), stalagmites (from bottom to top) and helictites (horizontally).

Another major cavern is the Ambrosio Cave, which has 150 meters of a series of galleries where unique aboriginal pictographs were painted.

In addition, the Saturno Cave in the coastal resort of Varadero, is flooded with crystal-clear water along 25 meters, allowing tourists to practice underwater speleology.
