Technology for Cuban Tobacco Industry

Havana.- The central province of Sancti Spiritus will have a plant to treat covered tobacco leaves, with a view to guaranteeing the layers to roll Cuban cigars for export.

The project, which will cost nearly five million pesos, will allow treating about 200 tons of tobacco leaves and improving the quality of leaves.

The facility must be completed in the first quarter of 2019 and will be the first of the seven plants to be built in Cuba.

Tobacco farmers in Sancti Spiritus are the second major producers in the country and have planned to plant 3,400 hectares, including 200 hectares of covered tobacco, in the next season.

Another tobacco treatment plant is scheduled for inauguration in 2020 to increase capacity to 500 tons of tobacco leaves per harvest.
