Vaccination Campaign against Hepatitis B in Sancti Spiritus
Monday, August 20, 2018

Havana.- This month, the healthcare system in central Sancti Spiritus province will administer the Cuban vaccine HeberNasvac against chronic hepatitis B.

This way, the fourth phase of administration of the vaccine will begin at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Hospital and will benefit more than 200 patients infected with the virus.

According to experts, there are prospects that the vaccine will eradicate the surface antigen that causes infections that lead to chronic liver diseases.

In addition, six other provinces will begin the use of that therapy, aimed at reducing the replication of the virus.

The HeberNasvac vaccine, produced by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), is administered nasally and subcutaneously in its second cycle and it causes fewer adverse reactions than previous treatments.
