Cuba Develops Drug against Skin Cancer
Monday, August 6, 2018

Havana.- Cuba's Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) has developed a drug called Heberferon, which has successfully been used to treat basal cell carcinomas.

The aforementioned medication is already administered in some 50 health institutions throughout the country, with an emphasis on primary and secondary care systems.

The product is based on a combination of alpha and gamma interferons for the effective treatment of the most frequent skin tumor, which has a high incidence all over the world.

Experts recommended its use in basal cell carcinomas in the so-called high-risk areas, such as the nose, ear, eyelids and periocular region.

The optimal dose defined in the treatment produces, at least, a sustained response for up to five years, with better aesthetic effects and lesser intensity of adverse reactions.
