Industrial Facilities to Process Bee Honey in Cuba
Monday, August 6, 2018

Havana.- Western Cuba will benefit from the services of a honey bee processing plant, the third of its kind in the country, to guarantee production of that food.

The activation of capacities prevents transporting bee honey from the production area to facilities in the central province of Sancti Spiritus.

The start-up process began in May and to date, 710 tons of honey from the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque, Matanzas and Cienfuegos have been processed.

The three existing centers in the country will allow processing up to 15,000 tons of honey a year, for which it is necessary to exceed 225,000 bee hives.

More investments are planned, including the installation of a packaging line at the plants in Sancti Spíritus, Contramaestre (Santiago de Cuba) and Artemisa. In the latter, there is also a plant to manufacture wax candles.
