Cuban Judoka Stands Out in Grand Prix in Zagreb
Monday, August 6, 2018

Havana.- Asley Gonzalez, Cuba's only competitor at the Judo Grand Prix in Zagreb (Croatia), won the silver medal in the 90-kilogram division.

Gonzalez, who was also the world champion in Rio de Janeiro-2013 lost at the end by Wazari to Avtandili Tchrikishvili, from Georgia, after being cautioned twice (Shidos).

It is worth mentioning that Gonzalez advanced to the discussion of the title with five victories, three of them by Ippon and two by Wazari.

The objective of the Cuban judoka at these events is to get points for the world ranking and to continue her training with a view to the world championship in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In Zagreb, 508 judokas from 78 countries competed. Japan topped the table of medals with three titles, one silver medal and six bronze medals, followed by France (2-1-1) and Georgia (2-0-1).
