Havana.- Proctokinase, a suppository to treat acute hemorrhoidal crises, stands out among the products developed by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) in Cuba.
The aforementioned medication is already administered in all Cuban hospitals and has made a significant contribution to the treatment of this disease in the country.
According to the studies carried out, 62 percent of 555 patients treated with the medication had an early response on the fourth day of therapeutic treatment for acute hemorrhoidal crisis.
Proctokinase is, until now, the only medication in the form of a suppository that has a biological product as its active ingredient, in this case recombinant streptokinase.
Without this therapeutic treatment, the only solution was surgery, while the use of the drug substantially reduces this procedure.
