Increased Citrus Production in Ciego de Avila
Monday, July 23, 2018

Havana.- Citrus production is one of the priorities of the company Ceballos, based in the eastern Cuban province of Ciego de Avila, to meet the demand from the domestic market and exports.

In this regard, the lemon harvest started in 36 hectares, as part of a strategy to recovery that crop, which was damaged by Hurricane Irma.

Together with this, 90 hectares of grapefruit and 560 hectares of orange were planted with all the necessary requirements, putting into practice sowing programs with advanced technology.

The experts also took into account that lemons can produce several harvests every year, taking into account the use of appropriate plantings.

Farmers resort to the application of compost mixed with organic materials, vermiculture, sugarcane and other natural compositions, which were decisive to improve the plantations.
