Investments in Cuban Food Industry
Monday, July 23, 2018

Havana.- Agricultural companies in Ciego de Avila have invested 33 million pesos in one and a half year, in order to increase food production.

A large part of the resources went to Empresa de Cultivos Varios La Cuba, which lost 3.3 million banana plants due to the impact of Hurricane Irma.

Thanks to the recovery actions, the company has already produced 40,000 tons of bananas for the domestic market.

Meanwhile, a bean harvest of nearly 6,000 tons was completed in the territory, 80 percent of which was contributed by cooperatives and private producers.

This strategy aims to increase production to meet the food demand from the domestic market and to reduce imports.
