Environmental Actions in Cuba's Major Coastal Resort
Monday, July 16, 2018

Havana.- Authorities in Varadero, Cuba's major coastal resort, are promoting environmental actions to preserve the region's attractions.

As a result, over the past five years, 2.5 kilometers of beach have benefited from several actions to control the erosion of the dune, in addition to guidelines on hygiene, infrastructure, services and environmental education.

From 2013 to 2017, around 35 infrastructures that were detrimental to the dynamics of this fragile ecosystem were demolished.

In the aforementioned period, an area of 105,000 square meters of beach was restored and about 53,000 cubic meters of sand were poured.

The works prevented new sand discharges in 2018, which was reflected in a reduction in costs by avoiding additional disbursements for maintenance.
