Specialized Transport for Health in Cuba
Monday, July 16, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban health system has developed alternative care for patients who need to move to specialized institutions in the capital.

In this regard, the contribution of the so-called Medibus, an initiative that has operated for over a decade from the central province of Sancti Spiritus, stands out.

During that period, more than 28,680 patients have been transported for studies at medical institutes or for follows-up in the Cuban capital, due to the complexity of their diseases.

In general, cases with retinal detachment, cardiologic conditions, orthopedic or other surgeries, as well as cancer patients or with connective tissue diseases are prioritized.

Due to the coordinated action by the ministries of Public Health and Transportation, about 260 patients benefit from this means of transport on a monthly basis with two weekly departures.
