Actions in Cuba to Increase Bee Honey Production
Monday, July 9, 2018

Havana.- Cuban experts are working on a program to raise high-productivity and pest-resistant bees, with a view to increasing honey production.

According to the Center for Beekeeping Research, the objective of this strategy is to obtain at least 60 kilograms of honey per beehive.

With this mechanism, production increased in the Cuban provinces of Granma, Camagüey, Ciego de Avila, Cienfuegos, Matanzas, Mayabeque, Artemisa and Pinar del Río.

It should be mentioned that last year, more than 155,000 queen bees were bred with the aim of guaranteeing at least one annual change of the leader of each beehive.

In 2016, 9,120 tons of honey were produced, while last year, the output was 7,500 tons, most of which was exported to Europe.
