Sugar Industry Promotes Production of Byproducts

Havana.- The Cuban sugar industry promotes the production of byproducts, with the purpose of diversifying the sector and meeting the market's demands.

In the case of the eastern province of Granma, the business unit Derivados reports positive results in the production of nutritional yeast (torula), alcohols, carbon dioxide and rums.

The aforementioned company has four plants, one for the production of torula, animal feed, and another to make alcohols for export, the preparation of medicines and supplies to the population.

In addition, there is the plant in which carbon dioxide for food is made, and the rum factory, where four brands of rum are made, including Corsair.

The company was created in 1982 with the aim of obtaining alcohol, then production was diversified and it currently produces up to 12 items.
