Good Performance by Cuban Competitor at Pan-American Karate Championship

Havana.- Four Cubans won medals, including one title, at the 32nd Pan-American Karate Championship, held in Chile.

On this occasion, the gold medal went to Cirelys Martínez in the 68 kilograms, in addition to the silver medal won by Baurelis Torres in 55 kg and the bronze medals for the women's teams in kumite.

In addition, Lázaro Jordan Chapman won another bronze medal in the category of more than 84 kilograms.

The United States (4-2-4) dominated the competition by countries, followed by Brazil (3-6-2), Canada (3-1-5), Chile (3-1-4), Venezuela (2-2-4) , Peru (2-1-1), Mexico (1-1-4), Cuba and Panama (1-1-2), and Ecuador (1-0-2).

The Cuban karateists' presence in the event is part of their preparation with a view to participating in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia).
