Cocoa and Coconut Productions Increase in Baracoa
Monday, May 21, 2018

Havana.- The municipality of Baracoa, in eastern Cuba, is working to recover the cocoa and coconut plantations affected by the impact of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

In the case of cocoa, the plan is to collect 600 tons this year, a volume that should increase to 1,600 tons by 2021.

In addition, the Baracoa factory is being upgraded technologically to process some 4,000 tons of cocoa in two years.

In the case of coconut, actions have been taken to extend the planted areas and collect 37,000 tons.

Coconut oil is used to manufacture cosmetics, as well as to produce sweets and coconut water as a refreshing drink.
