Cuban Agriculture Promotes Fruit Planting
Monday, May 21, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban agricultural sector is carrying out plans to expand the sowing of fruit trees, with a view to meeting the domestic demand and for exports.

The goal is to plant 17,000 hectares of tropical fruits by 2020, to double the plantations of pineapple, mango and guava in the country.

The program also includes the application of agri-ecology with the use of technically improved nurseries and high-quality postures, taking advantage of the available resources.

The sowing of the MD-2 and Spanish Red pineapple varieties is also prioritized, in order to reach 2,000 hectares between them to increase supplies to tourism and for exports.

The agricultural sector has 14 small industries and a combined plant, where preserves, juices, nectars, slices and segments in syrup are made from pineapple.
