Bolivia Builds Underwater Museum
Monday, April 16, 2018

La Paz.- Bolivia is working on the development of an underwater museum in Lake Titicaca, for which it received a donation of two million dollars from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The project aims to take advantage of the submerged archaeological remains of an Andean culture as a tourist attraction.

The objective of executing this investment is to make virtual visits a reality by diving in the submerged city.

The museum will also receive resources from Belgian Cooperation, which carries out the final design that will be presented in July at a congress of archaeologists in a tourist resort of the lake.

The community of Ojjelaya will host the museum, since some 10,000 archaeological pieces, such as bone artifacts and kitchen utensils, were discovered in the area last year.

The Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and is located at an altitude of 3,800 meters in the Andes, covering an area of more than 8,500 square kilometers.
