Cuban Aquaculture Benefits from Water Availability
Monday, April 16, 2018

Havana.- Aquaculture in the eastern Cuban province of Ciego de Avila is gaining ground due to the increase in water availability in the reservoirs of the territory.

The company has focused on repopulating fingerlings of cyprinids and tilapia, with 1.3 million units ready for fattening at the end of the first quarter of 2018.

In El Teide and La Teresa farms, catches will begin in May and June, for which the necessary conditions are created.

In the same way, Las Margaritas farm has a potential growing underwater that will allow catching about 200 tons of catfish this year.

In that regard, experts from the hydric sector pointed out that the reservoirs have the necessary water to develop aquaculture in this year.
