Nature Tourism in Western Cuba
Monday, April 9, 2018

Havana.- Ciénaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), the best preserved wetlands in the insular Caribbean, will host the 12th edition of the Nature Tourism Event (TURNAT) in 2019.

The selection of that destination to host the meeting took into account its status as a Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar Site, among other international certificates.

The area covers nearly 10,500 square kilometers and holds more than 900 varieties of plants and 160 species birds, including three endemic ones.

For tourism, there are proposals such as bird watching and diving. The latter can be enjoyed all year round in coastal areas and flooded caves.

During TURNAT, at least two excursions related to local history and the production of charcoal are planned.
